a hypothetical response to the question "do you smoke?"

artist's rendition

If someone were at the doctor and the doctor asked "do you smoke?" or a similar question, and the doctor was a bigot and would take away their medication, and this someone didn't smell like smoke or have stains on their fingers or anything, then, maybe, they could just lie. It wouldn't necessarily be ethical, but it would be in the interest of self-preservation for someone in a situation like that. (Unlike smoking or whatever else it is they're doing.)

"Wait, are you telling me to lie?"

No! It's just possible to lie, hypothetically, if you think about it. If you are writing a book about a transgender character and the character has to go to the doctor, they could maybe do this. In real life, it would be inadvisable.

HOW-TO

  1. I don't advise doing this.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • I've never done this in my life. I've seen realistically written fictional characters do it, though. This part of the site is an anthropological study.
